If you have found this blog you might like to find out more about Sheilasembroidery.

Well she is a 60 something year old textile artist living and working in Tyne & Wear. She lives with her husband and two cats who all play a big part in her life. Her two grown up children live and work in London she she visits as often as she can.

Sheila worked from the age of 21 as a Primary School teacher mostly in Wallsend and North Shields. She ended up as Technology co-ordinator within quite a large Primary School teaching 7 to 11 years olds everything from the basic maths and English, history, geography, science and of course, technology.

She loved encouraging children to find their creativity often planning bookmaking weeks, industrial type processes to create a book from the writing, through the illustration and on to the printing and making up of the books which would end up in the library for the children to read. They would also plan and make other items to be sold to parents and friends such as calendars, painted eggs and Christmas and Easter cards.

Sheila’s time is spent stitching, journaling, blogging, volunteering for AgeUK and much of her time is taken up with helping to run her local Embroiderers’ Guild branch in North Shields as well as attending other branches within the NE region. Her home and garden take up the rest of her busy life as well as being part of the Quilter’s’ Guild and two other local textile groups, TWYNE and Northern Threads.

She enjoys traveling and has visited Gran Canaria, Madera, India, Italy, Spain, Iceland, Germany, Costa Rica and St Lucia. A return visit to India in 2017 is planned when she will be learning more about block printing and how the wooden blocks are made and used. Wherever she goes she has studied the textiles of the region and even though she has not visited African she has a fascination for African textiles.

After retiring early Sheila retrained to teach Adults both IT and her beloved embroidery. She also helped to train other Adult Education tutors. This love of teaching and imparting knowledge to others continues through talking to her friends in the Embroiderers’ Guild and encouraging the general public talk about their textile experiences. She is very active online and has textile friends all over the world.

You can find a variety of blogs written by Sheila within the WordPress community all concentrating on a slightly different topic. You can also find her on Blogspot, Pinterest and Facebook.

Please talk to her, leave her a message and she will try and get back to you as soon as she can.
